भीष्मधनंजयद्वैरथम्

Bhīṣma–Dhanaṃjaya Duel and the Opening Clash

न विजेतुं रणे भीष्म उत्सहेत धनुर्धरम्‌ आलोकादपि युद्ध हि सममेतद्‌ भविष्यति,इसी प्रकार भीष्म भी युद्धमें देवताओंके लिये भी दुर्जय, गाण्डीवधारी पाण्डुपुत्र अर्जुनको जीतनेमें समर्थ नहीं हो सकते। यदि ये दोनों लड़ते रहें तो जबतक यह संसार स्थित है, तबतक इन दोनोंका यह युद्ध समानरूपसे ही चलता रहेगा

na vijetuṁ raṇe bhīṣmam utsaheta dhanurdharam | ālokād api yuddhaṁ hi samam etad bhaviṣyati ||

สัญชัยกล่าวว่า—นายธนูผู้นั้นย่อมไม่อาจเอาชนะภีษมะในสนามรบได้ แม้ทั้งสองจะรบกันตราบเท่าที่โลกดำรงอยู่ ศึกนี้ก็จะยังคงเสมอกัน
