गौरुडव्यूह-रचना तथा अर्धचन्द्र-प्रत्यव्यूह

एकाल्ा निर्दहेद् भीष्म: पाण्डवानामनीकिनीम्
sañjaya uvāca | ekālaṃ nirdahen bhīṣmaḥ pāṇḍavānām anīkinīm, jighāṃsantaṃ yudhāṃ śreṣṭha tadā āsīt tumulaṃ mahat |
สัญชัยกล่าวว่า “ข้าแต่พระราชา ภีษมะผู้เป็นยอดนักรบประหนึ่งสามารถเผาผลาญกองทัพปาณฑพทั้งสิ้นให้มอดไหม้ได้ในวันเดียว ครั้นเมื่อปาณฑพทั้งหลายกรูกันเข้าหมายโค่นยอดนักรบนั้น ในขณะนั้นเองศึกก็พองตัวเป็นความตุมุลน่าสะพรึงกลัว ภาพนี้เผยความตึงเครียดแห่งธรรม—แม้ต้องเผชิญปิตามหาผู้ควรบูชาและผูกพันด้วยปฏิญาณ หน้าที่แห่งกษัตริย์นักรบก็ยังผลักดันทั้งสองฝ่ายสู่ความรุนแรงอันหลีกไม่พ้น”
