चिच्छेद रथिनां बाणै: शिरांसि भरतर्षभ
sañjaya uvāca | ciccheda rathināṁ bāṇaiḥ śirāṁsi bharatarṣabha | jighāṁsantaṁ yudhāṁ śreṣṭha tadā āsīt tumulaṁ mahat ||
สัญชัยกล่าวว่า “โอ้ผู้ประเสริฐแห่งภารตะ ศเวตใช้ศรตัดศีรษะนักรบรถศึกจำนวนมาก ครั้นเมื่อความพยายามจะสังหารภีษมะ—ยอดนักรบผู้เป็นเลิศ—เริ่มมุ่งตรงมา ในกาลนั้นเองศึกใหญ่ตุมุลก็กำเริบขึ้น ภาพนั้นเผยความตึงเครียดแห่งธรรมในสงคราม: ความกล้าหาญและเจตนาคุ้มครองกลับกลายเป็นความคลั่งแห่งการฆ่าฟัน เมื่อเป้าหมายคือยอดนักรบชราผู้ควรเคารพ”

Sañjaya reports that a warrior is cutting down many chariot-fighters by severing their heads with arrows. At the same time, as Bhīṣma—the best of warriors—is being assailed with the intent to kill him, the battlefield becomes extremely tumultuous and the fighting swells into a great, terrifying clash.
