Educational Q&A

Steady wisdom is recognized by mastery over the senses: one can deliberately withdraw attention and impulse from sense-objects, preventing craving and agitation from disturbing discernment and right action.

In the battlefield dialogue, Arjuna is asking how a person of established wisdom is identified. This verse offers a concrete sign—like a tortoise drawing in its limbs, the wise withdraw the senses from their objects, showing inner stability amid external pressures.
