प्रतिग्रहभेदः — The Distinction between Giving and Accepting

संकीर्णयोनिर्विप्रश्न॒ सम्बन्धी पतितश्न यः । वर्जनीया बुधैरेते निवापे समुपस्थिते,“पिण्डदानका समय उपस्थित होनेपर उस स्थानसे चाण्डालों और श्वपचोंको हटा देना चाहिये। गेरुआ वस्त्र धारण करनेवाला संन्यासी, कोढ़ी, पतित, ब्रह्महत्यारा, वर्णसंकर ब्राह्मण तथा धर्मभ्रष्ट सम्बन्धी भी श्राद्धकाल उपस्थित होनेपर विद्दानोंद्वारा वहाँसे हटा देने योग्य हैं!

saṅkīrṇayonir vipraśna-sambandhī patitaś ca yaḥ | varjanīyā budhair ete nivāpe samupasthite ||

ภีษมะกล่าวว่า “ผู้มีชาติกำเนิดปะปน/ไม่เป็นระเบียบ ผู้เป็นญาติที่เกี่ยวข้องกับ ‘วิปรศนะ’ และผู้ใดตกจากธรรม—คนเหล่านี้ เมื่อถึงกาลนิวาปะ (การถวายในศราทธะ/ปิณฑะ) บัณฑิตพึงเว้นและกันออกไป.”

That śrāddha (ancestral offering) should be conducted with careful attention to ritual boundaries; those classified as ritually fallen or socially/ritually disruptive are to be kept away at the time of the offering.

In Anuśāsana Parva, Bhīṣma instructs Yudhiṣṭhira on dharma, including detailed conduct for śrāddha. Here he lists categories of persons whom the learned tradition considers to be excluded when the nivāpa/piṇḍa offering is about to be made.
