Educational Q&A

The verse highlights yogic mastery and self-restraint: through yoga (disciplined absorption), a sage can withdraw from ordinary perception (becoming ‘hidden’) and sustain prolonged states like deep sleep, illustrating the power of tapas and inner control rather than external force.

Chyavana reports that he became invisible and then reappeared in the listener’s house; he then entered a yogic state and remained in deep sleep for twenty-one days, indicating a deliberate, controlled withdrawal of body and senses.
