एक एव चरेद् धर्म न धर्मध्वजिको भवेत् | धर्मवाणिजका होते ये धर्ममुपभुज्जते
eka eva cared dharmaṁ na dharmadhvajiko bhavet | dharmavāṇijakā hote ye dharmam upabhuñjate ||
ภีษมะกล่าวว่า: “แม้ต้องอยู่ลำพัง บุคคลก็ควรประพฤติธรรมะ แต่ไม่ควรเป็นผู้ชูธรรมะเป็นธงเพื่อโอ้อวด ผู้ใดเอาธรรมะเป็นเครื่องเลี้ยงชีพ—เสพธรรมะเพื่อผลประโยชน์—ผู้นั้นเป็นเพียงพ่อค้าแห่งความชอบธรรม”
