Śiva-nāmānukīrtana-prastāvaḥ
Prologue to the praise of Śiva and the Upamanyu testimony
ततो मामाह देवेन्द्रस्तुष्टस्ते5हं द्विजोत्तम । वरं वृणीष्व मत्तस्त्वं यत् ते मनसि वर्तते,उस समय देवराज इन्द्रने मुझसे कहा--'द्विजश्रेष्ठ! मैं तुमपर बहुत संतुष्ट हूँ। तुम्हारे मनमें जो वर लेनेकी इच्छा हो, वही मुझसे माँग लो।” इन्द्रकी बात सुनकर मेरा मन प्रसन्न नहीं हुआ। मैंने ऊपरसे हर्ष प्रकट करते हुए देवराजसे यह कहा--
tato mām āha devendras tuṣṭas te ’haṃ dvijottama | varaṃ vṛṇīṣva mattas tvaṃ yat te manasi vartate ||
แล้วเทวेंद्र (อินทรา) ผู้พอพระทัยตรัสแก่ข้าพเจ้าว่า “โอ้พราหมณ์ผู้ประเสริฐ เราพอใจในตัวท่าน จงเลือกพรจากเรา—สิ่งใดที่ดำรงอยู่ในใจท่าน จงขอเถิด” ครั้นได้ฟังวาจาของอินทรา ใจข้าพเจ้าไม่ได้เริงร่า; แต่เพื่อรักษามรรยาท ข้าพเจ้าจึงแสดงความยินดีภายนอกแล้วทูลตอบพระราชาแห่งเทวะ
