Educational Q&A

Sustained austerity (regulated eating) combined with steady inner calm is presented as a powerful dharmic discipline whose fruit is attainment of a higher spiritual realm (Brahmaloka).

In Bhishma’s instruction on dharma and religious observances, he describes the merit of a year-long vow: eating only once every month on the thirtieth day while remaining peaceful in mind, culminating in the reward of Brahmaloka.
