Educational Q&A

Bhishma outlines traditional markers of household auspiciousness: certain gentle birds and specific sacred or purity-associated objects are said to support prosperity and well-being, while other omens are to be avoided. The ethical thrust is the cultivation of a harmonious, orderly home aligned with dharma and purity.

In Anushasana Parva, Bhishma continues instructing on dharma and proper conduct. Here he gives practical guidance about signs and items considered auspicious for a householder—framing domestic life as a sphere where dharma is supported through purity, reverence, and culturally sanctioned good-omen practices.
