Educational Q&A

The verse underscores the importance of dynastic continuity in the royal (kṣatriya) context: producing heirs and maintaining the lineage is treated as a key social and political responsibility, with special notice given to the son who carries the line forward (vaṁśakṛt).

Vaiśampāyana continues the genealogical account: Pūru and his wife Pauṣṭī have three sons—Pravīra, Īśvara, and Raudrāśva—described as mahārathas, and Pravīra is identified as the one through whom the lineage proceeds.
