Ādi Parva, Adhyāya 90 — Pūror Vaṃśa, Kuru-Pravara, and the Janamejaya Line

Genealogical Recitation

na jātu hṛṣyen mahatā dhanena vedān adhīyītān ahaṅkṛtaḥ syāt | nānābhāvā bahavo jīvaloke daivādhīnā naṣṭaceṣṭādhikārāḥ | tat tat prāpya na vihanyeta dhīro diṣṭaṃ balīya iti matvā ||

Educational Q&A

Wealth should not intoxicate the mind; learning should not breed pride. Since outcomes are ultimately under destiny/providence, the wise cultivate equanimity—remaining unshaken by gain or loss, pleasure or pain—while living with discipline and humility.

Jaratkāru delivers a reflective instruction on conduct: he contrasts external success (wealth, worldly striving) with inner steadiness, urging Vedic study coupled with humility and a calm acceptance of what destiny brings.
