भये न मुहाम्यष्टकाहं कदाचित्‌ संतापो मे मानसो नास्ति कश्षित्‌ । धाता यथा मां विदधीत लोके ध्रुवं तथाहं भवितेति मत्वा,अष्टक! मैं कभी भयमें पड़कर मोहित नहीं होता, मुझे कोई मानसिक संताप भी नहीं होता; क्‍योंकि मैं समझता हूँ कि विधाता इस संसारमें मुझे जैसे रखेगा, वैसे ही रहूँगा

bhaye na muhyāmy aṣṭakāhaṃ kadācit santāpo me mānaso nāsti kaścit | dhātā yathā māṃ vidadhīta loke dhruvaṃ tathāhaṃ bhavitety matvā |

โอ อัษฏกะ! แม้ความกลัวจะเกิดขึ้น ข้าก็มิได้หลงมัวเมาเลย และในใจข้าก็มิได้มีความระทมใด ๆ เพราะข้าเชื่อมั่นว่า ผู้กำหนดชะตาจะวางข้าไว้ในโลกนี้เช่นไร ข้าย่อมอยู่ในสภาพนั้นอย่างแน่นอน

Educational Q&A

The verse teaches steadiness of mind: one should not be overwhelmed by fear or mental distress when one accepts that outcomes are ultimately arranged by the cosmic Ordainer (dhātā). This is an ethic of inner composure and surrender to providence, not panic.

Jaṭāyu addresses Aṣṭaka and explains his own mental state: he remains unshaken by fear and free from inner torment because he trusts that whatever condition fate/Providence assigns him in the world is what he will inevitably experience.
