ययाति–देवयानी संवादः
Yayāti–Devayānī Dialogue and Śukra’s Consent
कस्माच्चिरायितो$सीति पृष्टस्तामाह भार्गवीम् । समिथधश्च कुशादीनि काष्ठ भारं च भामिनि,उन्हें देखते ही देवयानीने पूछा--/आज आपने लौटनेमें विलम्ब क्यों किया?” इस प्रकार पूछनेपर कचने शुक्राचार्यकी कनन््यासे कहा--“भामिनि! मैं समिधा, कुश आदि और काष्ठका भार लेकर आ रहा था। रास्तेमें थकावट और भारसे पीड़ित हो एक वटवृक्षके नीचे ठहर गया। साथ ही सारी गौएँ भी उसी वृक्षकी छायामें आकर विश्राम करने लगीं
kasmāc cirāyito'sīti pṛṣṭas tām āha bhārgavīm | samidhāś ca kuśādīni kāṣṭha-bhāraṃ ca bhāmini ||
เมื่อเธอถามว่า “เหตุใดจึงกลับมาช้านัก?” กจจึงตอบแก่ธิดาแห่งภฤคุว่า “โอ้หญิงงาม ข้าพเจ้ากำลังนำฟืนสำหรับบูชา หญ้ากุศะและสิ่งอื่น ๆ พร้อมทั้งแบกภาระไม้ฟืนมาด้วย”
