Educational Q&A

The verse emphasizes the Mahābhārata’s genealogical ethic: beings and communities are understood through their origins and lineages. Naming the daughters of Tāmrā signals an ordered cosmos where descent and relationship matter, preparing the ground for later narratives in which ancestry and inherited duties shape conduct.

Vaiśampāyana continues a genealogical account, stating that the goddess Tāmrā bore five world-famous daughters—Kākī, Śyenī, Bhāsī, Dhṛtarāṣṭrī, and Śukī—figures presented as progenitors within the broader creation/lineage framework of the Ādi Parva.
