Educational Q&A

Dharma in ritual life balances commitment with realism: a sacrifice should be duly completed, but exhausted priests are not to be forced; instead, with proper consent and qualified replacements, the rite continues without violating propriety.

After a long time, the officiating priests become fatigued and leave the king. The king tries to persuade them to resume, but they do not return; he then appoints other brāhmaṇas as priests (with the former priests’ permission) and completes the ongoing satra.
