वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights a dharmic ethic of preparation: one seeks spiritual merit and inner purity through visiting tīrthas and holy sanctuaries before engaging in significant social or political encounters, suggesting that reverence and self-discipline should precede worldly dealings.
Vaiśampāyana narrates that Arjuna, having toured the sacred pilgrimage sites and shrines in that region, then proceeds to approach the local king—understood in this episode as the ruler of Maṇipura.
