Educational Q&A

The verse frames ethical scrutiny of impulsive action (sāhasa) and models responsible response: before judging or acting further, one should inquire into circumstances—place, identity, and background—especially when encountering someone frightened or vulnerable.

The narrator reports a speaker addressing a frightened woman, questioning why she undertook a risky act and asking where they are, who she is, and whose daughter she is—an attempt to understand her situation and establish her identity within social norms.
