नारद उवाच
This verse is a colophon rather than a didactic śloka: its function is to mark textual closure and locate the episode within the epic’s architecture. Indirectly, it reinforces the Mahābhārata’s ethical method—stories (ākhyānas) are framed, concluded, and preserved as units through which dharma and human conduct are contemplated.
The narrative action is not advanced here; the line formally announces that the chapter has ended. It identifies the book (Ādi Parva), the internal section (Vidura’s arrival and attainment of the kingdom), and the embedded tale (Sunda and Upasunda), indicating that this chapter completes that installment.
