Gaṅgādvāra-tīrtha, Ulūpī-saṃvāda, and Arjuna’s Dharma-Deliberation (गङ्गाद्वार-तीर्थम्, उलूपी-संवादः)
तत्र भीष्मेण राज्ञा च धर्मप्रणयने कृते । पाण्डवा: समपद्यन्त खाण्डवप्रस्थवासिन:,भीष्म तथा राजा धुृतराष्ट्रके द्वारा धर्मराज युधिष्ठिरको आधा राज्य देकर वहाँसे विदा कर देनेपर समस्त पाण्डव खाण्डवप्रस्थके निवासी हो गये
tatra bhīṣmeṇa rājñā ca dharma-praṇayane kṛte | pāṇḍavāḥ samapadyanta khāṇḍava-prastha-vāsinaḥ ||
ณ ที่นั้น ครั้นภีษมะและพระราชาทรงวางข้อยุติตามธรรมแล้ว เหล่าปาณฑพก็ไปพำนัก ณ ขาณฑวปรัสถ์
वायुदेव उवाच
The verse highlights dharma as the guiding principle for resolving dynastic disputes: a just political arrangement—rather than force—can preserve social order and reduce internecine conflict, even if it involves partition and relocation.
After Bhīṣma and the Kuru king formalize a dharma-based settlement (understood in context as granting the Pāṇḍavas a share of the kingdom), the Pāṇḍavas depart and become residents of Khāṇḍavaprastha, establishing their new seat there.
