Educational Q&A

The verse frames moral relief and safety as the fruit of ‘diṣṭi’ (fortunate providence): when a harmful, adharma-aligned agent is neutralized, the righteous feel both protection and the lifting of inner anguish. It also reflects Vidura’s dharmic stance—quiet gratitude rather than triumphalism.

Vidura expresses relief that Purocana—linked with the plot against the Pāṇḍavas—has been ‘śānta’ (silenced/ended), and that this outcome has removed Vidura’s intense worry and grief. He addresses an ‘illustrious one’ (mahādyute), indicating a respectful report to a noble listener in the surrounding episode.
