Nārada’s Account

diṣṭyā priyante pārthā hi diṣṭyā jīvati sā pṛthā | diṣṭyā purocanaḥ pāpo na sa kāmātyayaṃ gataḥ |

Educational Q&A

The verse underscores a moral pattern central to the Mahābhārata: righteous persons may be protected by fortune/providence, while a wicked plotter can be destroyed by his own scheme. It frames survival as ‘diṣṭyā’ (grace/fortunate turn) and the failure of evil intent as ethically fitting.

Bhīṣma remarks that Kuntī and her sons have survived the attempted burning (the lac-house plot), and that Purocana—the perpetrator—has died instead, having failed to carry out his intended harm.
