Adhyāya 196: Droṇa’s Conciliatory Counsel and Karṇa’s Suspicion of Counsel (मन्त्र-नय-विवादः)

तां देवदेव: प्रीतात्मा पुनः प्राह शुभं वचः । पञ्चकृत्वस्त्वयोक्तो5हं पतिं देहीति वै पुनः:,तब देवाधिदेव महादेवजीने मन-ही-मन अत्यन्त संतुष्ट होकर उससे यह शुभ वचन कहा--'भद्रे! तुमने 'पति दीजिये” इस वाक्यको पाँच बार दुहराया है; इसलिये मैंने जो पहले कहा है, वैसा ही होगा, तुम्हारा कल्याण हो। किंतु तुम्हें दूसरे शरीरमें प्रवेश करनेपर यह सब होगा”

tāṃ devadevaḥ prītātmā punaḥ prāha śubhaṃ vacaḥ | pañcakṛtvas tvayokto 'haṃ patiṃ dehīti vai punaḥ ||

มหาเทพผู้เป็นเทพเหนือเทพทั้งปวง เมื่อพระทัยยินดีแล้ว จึงตรัสถ้อยคำอันเป็นมงคลอีกครั้งว่า— “โอ้สตรีผู้สุภาพ เจ้าได้ทูลขอว่า ‘ขอประทานสามีแก่ข้า’ ซ้ำถึงห้าครั้ง เพราะฉะนั้น สิ่งที่เรากล่าวไว้ก่อนหน้านี้จักเป็นจริงแก่เจ้า—ขอความสวัสดีจงมีแก่เจ้า แต่ทั้งหมดนี้จักสำเร็จเมื่อเจ้าเข้าสู่กายใหม่”
