Adhyāya 196: Droṇa’s Conciliatory Counsel and Karṇa’s Suspicion of Counsel (मन्त्र-नय-विवादः)

तेषां काम भगवानुग्रधन्वा प्रादादिष्टं संनिसर्गाद्‌ यथोक्तम्‌ | तां चाप्येषां योषितं लोककान्तां श्रियं भार्या व्यदधान्मानुषेषु,उग्र धनुष धारण करनेवाले भगवान्‌ रुद्रने उन सबको उनकी अभीष्ट कामना पूर्ण होनेका वरदान दिया, जिसे वे अपने साधुस्वभावके कारण भगवानके सामने प्रकट कर चुके थे। साथ ही उस लोककमनीया युवती स्त्रीको, जो स्वर्गलोककी लक्ष्मी थी, मनुष्यलोकमें उनकी पत्नी निश्चित की

Teṣāṁ kāma bhagavān ugradhanvā prādād iṣṭaṁ saṁnisargād yathoktam | Tāṁ cāpy eṣāṁ yoṣitaṁ lokakāntāṁ śriyaṁ bhāryā vyadadhān mānuṣeṣu ||

วยาสกล่าวว่า “พระรุดระผู้ทรงคันศรอันเกรียงไกร ได้ประทานพรให้ความปรารถนาที่เขาทั้งหลายมุ่งหมายสำเร็จสมดังที่ได้ทูลขอด้วยใจซื่อตรงไร้เล่ห์กล และพระองค์ยังทรงกำหนดให้หญิงสาวผู้ลุ่มหลงโลกทั้งปวง—ศรีเอง ผู้เป็นลักษมีแห่งสวรรค์—ไปเป็นชายาของพวกเขาในโลกมนุษย์”
