The Ritual Formalization of Draupadī’s Marriage

अहं ततो नकुलो<नन्तरं मे पश्चादयं सहदेवस्तरस्वी । वृकोदरो5हं च यमौ च राज- न्रियं च कन्या भवतो नियोज्या:,अर्जुन बोले--नरेन्द्र! आप मुझे अधर्मका भागी न बनाइये। (बड़े भाईके अविवाहित रहते छोटे भाईका विवाह हो जाय,) यह धर्म नहीं है; ऐसा व्यवहार तो अनार्योमें देखा गया है। पहले आपका विवाह होना चाहिये; तत्पश्चात्‌ अचिन्त्यकर्मा महाबाहु भीमसेनका और फिर मेरा। तत्पश्चात्‌ नकुल फिर वेगवान्‌ सहदेव विवाह कर सकते हैं। राजन! भैया भीमसेन, मैं नकुल-सहदेव तथा यह राजकन्या--सभी आपकी आज्ञाके अधीन हैं

ahaṁ tato nakulo 'nantaraṁ me paścād ayaṁ sahadevas tarasvī | vṛkodaro 'haṁ ca yamau ca rājan nṛyaṁ ca kanyā bhavato niyojyāḥ ||

อรชุนกล่าวว่า— “ถ้าเช่นนั้นให้นกุลอภิเษกก่อน และหลังจากข้าพเจ้าให้สหเทวผู้ว่องไวนี้อภิเษกเถิด ข้าแต่พระราชา ภีมผู้ชื่อวฤโกทร ข้าพเจ้า พี่น้องฝาแฝดทั้งสอง และพระราชธิดาพระองค์นี้—ล้วนอยู่ใต้พระบัญชา; พระองค์ทรงกำหนดอย่างไร พวกเราก็จะปฏิบัติตามนั้น”
