Draupadī’s Arrival, Kuntī’s Unintended Utterance, and the Decision for Fraternal Unity
वैशम्पायन उवाच ततोडर्जुनो<स्त्रमाग्नेयं प्रददौ तद् यथाविधि । गन्धर्वाय तदा प्रीतो वचन॑ चेदमब्रवीत्,वैशम्पायनजी कहते हैं--तब अर्जुनने (बहुत) प्रसन्न होकर गन्धर्वको विधिपूर्वक आगेनेयास्त्र प्रदान किया और यह बात कही--
Vaiśampāyana uvāca: tato ’rjuno ’stram āgneyam pradadau tad yathāvidhi | gandharvāya tadā prīto vacanaṃ cedam abravīt ||
ไวศัมปายนะกล่าวว่า—ครั้งนั้น อรชุนผู้เปี่ยมด้วยความยินดี ได้มอบอาวุธอัคนียะให้แก่คันธรรพะตามพิธีอันควร แล้วกล่าวถ้อยคำนี้แก่เขา
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Power—especially mantra-empowered weaponry—should be transferred only with due procedure (yathāvidhi) and ethical restraint. The verse highlights responsible stewardship: even when pleased, one must act within dharmic norms.
Vaiśampāyana narrates that Arjuna, feeling pleased, formally grants the Agneya (fire) weapon to a Gandharva and then begins to address him, setting up the next lines of dialogue.
