Educational Q&A

The verse foregrounds the epic’s ethical debate between inherited social identity and demonstrated worth: the speaker argues that Karṇa’s radiance, kṣatriya virtues, and battlefield excellence establish his fitness for sovereignty more than claims about birth.

In Vaiśampāyana’s narration, a speaker (contextually praising Karṇa) challenges the idea that a sūta could father such a sun-like warrior, then asserts that Karṇa deserves not only Aṅga but even dominion over the whole earth, aided by the speaker’s loyal support.
