Adhyāya 129 — Public Acclaim of the Pāṇḍavas and Duryodhana’s Appeal to Dhṛtarāṣṭra
भोजने भीमसेनस्य पुन: प्राक्षेपयद् विषम् कालकूटं नवं तीक्ष्णं सम्भूृतं लोमहर्षणम्,धृतराष्ट्रकुमारने भीमसेनके भोजनमें पुनः नया, तीखा और सत्त्वके रूपमें परिणत रोंगटे खड़े कर देनेवाला कालकूट नामक विष डलवा दिया
bhojane bhīmasenasya punaḥ prākṣepayad viṣam kālakūṭaṃ navaṃ tīkṣṇaṃ sambhūtaṃ lomaharṣaṇam |
โอรสแห่งธฤตราษฏระได้ให้ผสมยาพิษลงในภัตตาหารของภีมเสนะอีกครั้ง—พิษกาลกูฏอันใหม่ สดคม และน่าสะพรึงจนขนลุก
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse highlights adharma within the family: deliberate harm through deceit (poisoning) violates duties of kinship, royal ethics, and basic human restraint. It frames envy and hostility as corrosive forces that lead to grievous wrongdoing.
In the ongoing plot against Bhīma, poison named Kālakūṭa is again mixed into his food. The repetition (“again”) emphasizes a sustained attempt to eliminate him through covert means rather than open confrontation.
