Adhyāya 123 — Droṇa’s Pedagogy: Arjuna’s Preeminence, Ekalavya’s Self-Training, and the Bhāsa-Lakṣya Trial
युधिष्ठिर इति ख्यात:ः पाण्डो: प्रथमज: सुतः । भविता प्रथितो राजा त्रिषु लोकेषु विश्रुतः:
Yudhiṣṭhira iti khyātaḥ pāṇḍoḥ prathamajaḥ sutaḥ | bhavitā prathito rājā triṣu lokeṣu viśrutaḥ ||
โอรสองค์แรกของปาณฑุจักเป็นที่รู้จักในนาม ‘ยุธิษฐิระ’ เขาจักเป็นพระราชาผู้เลื่องลือ และมีชื่อเสียงไปทั่วทั้งสามโลก
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse frames righteous kingship as something that earns enduring renown: a ruler’s fame is tied to his established identity and public recognition, implying that virtue and rightful conduct (dharma) are what make a king ‘known in the three worlds.’
Vaiśampāyana is describing the birth-order and future eminence of Pāṇḍu’s sons, stating that the eldest will be called Yudhiṣṭhira and will become a widely celebrated king.
