पूर्वपूर्वतमाभावं मत्वा लिप्सेत वै सुतम्‌ । उत्तमादवरा: पुंस: काडुशक्षन्ते पुत्रमापदि,“इनमेंसे पूर्व-पूर्वके अभावमें ही दूसरे-दूसरे पुत्रकी अभिलाषा करे। आपत्तिकालमें नीची जातिके पुरुष श्रेष्ठ पुरुषसे भी पुत्रोत्पत्तिकी इच्छा कर सकते हैं

pūrvapūrvātamābhāvaṁ matvā lipseta vai sutam | uttamād avarāḥ puṁsaḥ kāṅkṣante putram āpadi ||

เมื่อพิจารณาว่าไม่มีบุตรที่กล่าวไว้ก่อนหน้าแล้ว จึงค่อยปรารถนาบุตรประเภทถัดไป ในยามคับขัน บุรุษผู้มีฐานะต่ำกว่ายังอาจมุ่งหวังให้ได้บุตรโดยอาศัยบุรุษผู้มีฐานะสูงกว่าได้
