पाण्डोः श्राद्धं, सत्यवत्याः वनगमनम्, बाल्यस्पर्धा च

Pāṇḍu’s Śrāddha, Satyavatī’s Withdrawal, and Childhood Rivalry

इन्द्रद्युम्नसर: प्राप्य हंसकूटमतीत्य च । शतश्‌ड्रे महाराज तापस: समतप्यत,महाराज! उस समय महाभूत, सिद्ध और महर्षिगण उनकी रक्षा करते थे। वे ऊँची- नीची जमीनपर सो लेते थे। इन्द्रद्मम्मन सरोवरपर पहुँचकर तथा उसके बाद हंसकूटको लाँघते हुए वे शतशुंग पर्वतपर जा पहुँचे। जनमेजय! वहाँ वे तपस्वी-जीवन बिताते हुए भारी तपस्यामें संलग्न हो गये

vaiśampāyana uvāca | indradymnasaraḥ prāpya haṃsakūṭam atītya ca | śataśṛṅge mahārāja tāpasaḥ samatapyata |

ไวศัมปายนะกล่าวว่า—ครั้นไปถึงสระอินทรทยุมน์ แล้วข้ามพ้นหังสกูฏะ ฤๅษีผู้บำเพ็ญตบะก็ถึงเขาศตศฤงคะ ณ ที่นั้น ข้าแต่มหาราช เขาเริ่มประกอบตบะอันเคร่งครัดยิ่ง บทนี้แสดงอุดมคติแห่งการสละโลกอย่างมีวินัย—อดทนต่อความลำบาก ดำรงชีวิตเรียบง่าย และแสวงหาความบริสุทธิ์กับพลังทางจิตวิญญาณด้วยตบะอันยืนนาน
