Karna’s Birth, Gift-Ethic, and the Name Vaikartana
iti śrīmahābhārate ādiparvaṇi sambhavaparvaṇi bhīṣma-satyavatī-saṃvāde trayadhikaśatatamo 'dhyāyaḥ
As a colophon, the verse does not teach a new doctrine directly; it signals closure and emphasizes the Mahābhārata’s careful transmission—linking the narrative to its authoritative speaker (Vaiśampāyana) and situating the episode within the ethical-dynastic concerns of Bhīṣma and Satyavatī.
This line marks the end of the chapter in the Bhīṣma–Satyavatī dialogue within the Sambhava Parva of the Ādi Parva, formally concluding that segment of the story and transitioning to what follows in the text.
