वैशम्पायन उवाच
As a colophon, the verse primarily teaches how Itihāsa frames moral history through dynastic continuity: the death of a king is not merely personal tragedy but a structural rupture that raises questions of rightful succession, responsibility, and the preservation of the realm.
The narrator Vaiśampāyana marks the completion of a chapter in the Sambhava Parva that treats the demise of King Vicitravīrya. This formal ending indicates the close of that episode and prepares the text to move into the consequences for the Kuru lineage.
