वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse foregrounds Bhīṣma’s commitment to dynastic responsibility: as the elder, he acts to secure his younger brother’s marriage and the continuity of the Kuru line. At the same time, it invites ethical reflection on the tension between royal duty and the personal agency of the women involved.
After winning the maidens through his valor, Bhīṣma formally gives them to his younger brother Vicitravīrya as brides, arranging the marriage as part of statecraft and succession planning.
