स ददर्श तदा कनन््यां दाशानां देवरूपिणीम् | तामपृच्छत् स दृष्टवैव कन््यामसितलोचनाम्,घूमते-घूमते उन्होंने मल्लाहोंकी एक कन्या देखी, जो देवांगनाओंके समान रूपवती थी। श्याम नेत्रोंवाली उस कन्याको देखते ही राजाने पूछा---
sa dadarśa tadā kanyāṃ dāśānāṃ devarūpiṇīm | tām apṛcchat sa dṛṣṭvaiva kanyām asitalocanām |
ไวศัมปายนะกล่าวว่า ครั้งนั้นพระองค์ทอดพระเนตรเห็นหญิงสาวในหมู่ชาวประมง งามดุจนางฟ้า ครั้นเห็นนางผู้มีนัยน์ตาดำสนิทแล้ว กษัตริย์ก็ตรัสถามทันที
