यदा द्रोणो विविधानस्त्रमार्गान् निदर्शयन् समरे चित्रयोधी । न पाण्डवाउश्रेष्ठतरान् निहन्ति तदा नाशंसे विजयाय संजय,संजय! हमारे आचार्य ट्रोण बेजोड़ योद्धा थे और उन्होंने रणांगणमें अपने अस्त्र-शस्त्रके अनेकों विविध कौशल दिखलाये, परंतु जब मैंने सुना कि वे वीर- शिरोमणि पाण्डवोंमेंसे किसी एकका भी वध नहीं कर रहे हैं, तब मैंने विजयकी आशा त्याग दी
yadā droṇo vividhān astramārgān nidarśayan samare citrayodhī | na pāṇḍavān śreṣṭhatarān nihanti tadā nāśaṁse vijayāya sañjaya sañjaya ||
สัญชัย! เมื่อโทรณะ ยอดนักรบผู้พิสดาร แสดงวิถีการใช้อาวุธนานาประการในสนามรบ แต่กลับไม่สังหารแม้ผู้ใดผู้หนึ่งในหมู่ปาณฑพผู้เลิศล้ำ—ครั้นข้าได้ยินดังนั้น ข้าก็ละทิ้งความหวังในชัยชนะ
