ดังนี้ ในศรีกูรมปุราณะ สังหิตาหกพันโศลก ในภาคหลัง เป็นบทที่ยี่สิบแปด วยาสกล่าวว่า “ด้วยประการนี้ สำหรับยติผู้มั่นคงในธรรมแห่งอาศรมของตนและสำรวมตน การยังชีพได้บัญญัติไว้ด้วยภิกษา หรือด้วยผลไม้และรากไม้ก็ได้”
