Ekātmanām means that the Yadus all shared the same opinion, namely that Kṛṣṇa, the Supreme Personality of Godhead, was the goal of their life. Therefore, Parīkṣit Mahārāja could not see any obvious reason for such a destructive quarrel among the members of the Yadu dynasty, and he was anxious to know the actual cause.
In this verse, King Parīkṣit specifically asks the cause and exact nature of the curse that befell the Yadus, setting up Śukadeva’s explanation of how the event unfolded under divine arrangement.
Hearing that Lord Kṛṣṇa’s own dynasty met destruction, Parīkṣit seeks the deeper reason—how such a curse could occur and how discord could arise among those closely united—so that the divine purpose behind the narrative becomes clear.
The verse points to the difference between spiritual unity and material behavior: remembering the one Self encourages humility and restraint, helping one respond to conflict by seeking truth, reconciliation, and dharmic conduct rather than ego-driven division.
