Balarāma Humbles the Kurus and Rescues Sāmba
badhnītemaṁ durvinītaṁ kiṁ kariṣyanti vṛṣṇayaḥ ye ’smat-prasādopacitāṁ dattāṁ no bhuñjate mahīm
This verse shows how a king’s pride can make him dismiss great devotees like the Vṛṣṇis, revealing the spiritual danger of arrogance and the karmic reactions it invites.
In his former royal life, Nṛga became intoxicated with power and believed the Vṛṣṇis depended on his favor, so he ordered punishment without understanding their true strength and divine shelter.
Do not measure people by external power or favors exchanged; cultivate humility and gratitude, and avoid acting harshly from ego—such actions create lasting consequences.
