सुनन्दायां वर्षशतं पदैकेन भुवं स्पृशन् । तप्यमानस्तपो घोरमिदमन्वाह भारत ॥ ८ ॥

sunandāyāṁ varṣa-śataṁ padaikena bhuvaṁ spṛśan tapyamānas tapo ghoram idam anvāha bhārata

โอ้เชื้อสายภารตะ เมื่อสวายัมภูวะ มนูเข้าสู่ป่าแล้ว ท่านยืนบนฝั่งแม่น้ำสุนันทาโดยให้เพียงขาข้างเดียวแตะพื้น และบำเพ็ญตบะอันเข้มข้นตลอดหนึ่งร้อยปี ระหว่างตบะท่านกล่าวดังนี้
