FAQs

It gives a formula-style ingredient list for a named aromatic preparation (“Malaya”), combining trisugandha, camphor, sandalwood, saffron, and musk-like fragrance—used for perfumery/unguent applications and often for ritual scenting.

Beyond theology, the Agni Purana preserves practical recipes for fragrances and compounds (gandha-yoga), reflecting applied knowledge traditions akin to Ayurveda and household/ritual sciences.

Fragrant substances are traditionally linked with purity, auspiciousness, and devotional offering; the text frames this compound as “sarvakāmadam,” implying it supports desired outcomes through auspicious, sanctifying use.
