Lord Agni (in instruction to the sage Vasiṣṭha, as per the common Agni Purana dialogue frame)

Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Tantra","secondary_vidya":"Puja-vidhi","practical_application":"Devi-pratiṣṭhā: dhyāna, ratna-nyāsa/upanayana of offerings, and āvāhana–niyojana (invocation and fixing) of Devī into the ritual locus (pīṭha/vigraha/kalasha).","sutra_style":true}

Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Procedure","entry_title":"Devi Vyāpaka-dhyāna and Āvāhana–Niyojana in Pratiṣṭhā","lookup_keywords":["devī-pratiṣṭhā","vyāpaka-dhyāna","ratna-nyāsa","āvāhana","niyojana"],"quick_summary":"Visualize the Goddess as pervading the entire ritual region, place gems/offerings, then formally install and fix her presence into the chosen seat or image so worship becomes efficacious and stable."}

Concept: Śakti is invoked as immanent and all-pervading; ritual ‘fixing’ (niyojana) stabilizes divine presence for worship and merit.

Application: Use vyāpaka-dhyāna to sacralize space, then perform āvāhana and niyojana so subsequent upacāras are directed to a ‘present’ deity.

Khanda Section: Puja-vidhi (Devi-pratishtha and ritual installation procedures)

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: śānta

Type: Tirtha

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A consecration pavilion with a goddess image/seat; the officiant meditates on Devī filling the whole region, then places gems and offerings and performs invocation into the seat/image.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala temple mural style, Devi consecration scene inside a maṇḍapa, priest in white mundu performing āvāhana mudrā, Devī aura expanding to fill the kṣetra, gem offerings arranged symmetrically, rich reds/ochres, flat iconic composition.","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting, central Devi on pīṭha with ornate arch, heavy gold leaf on jewelry and ratna offerings, priest at side performing installation, bright vermilion and emerald palette, embossed gold detailing.","mysore_prompt":"Mysore painting, instructional consecration layout: pīṭha/āsana, ratna placements, priest doing nyāsa gestures, soft shading, delicate linework, labeled ritual objects subtly indicated.","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature, courtly pavilion adapted as ritual maṇḍapa, meticulous depiction of gems and vessels, priest invoking Devī into an icon, luminous halo filling the space, fine textile patterns and architectural detail."}

Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"contemplative","suggested_raga":"Bhairavi","pace":"medium","voice_tone":"instructional"}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: पश्चाद्देवीन्तस्यान्नियोजयेत् → पश्चात् + देवीम् + तस्य + अन्नि + नियोजयेत् (अन्नि/अन्नम् पाठभेदः सम्भाव्यः).

FAQs

It teaches a consecration sequence used in Devi-pratiṣṭhā: first dhyāna (visualizing the deity as all-pervading), then offering/placing ratna and other items, then saṃsthāpana (formal establishment), and finally niyojana (ritually fixing/invoking the Devi into the chosen support such as an image or seat).

Alongside mythology, the Agni Purana preserves practical liturgical technology—step-by-step installation logic (dhyāna, nyāsa/offerings, saṃsthāpana, āvāhana/niyojana)—showing it as a handbook for temple and domestic ritual practice.

By properly visualizing and ritually establishing the Devi, the worshipper aligns intention (bhāva) with correct procedure (vidhi), which is held to purify the rite, make the invocation effective, and yield merit through correctly performed devotion and consecration.
