Alamkara Type: Upama

Concept: Niṣkala-vyāpakatva of Śiva and the distinction between mantra-consciousness and mind’s modifications.

Application: During japa, notice mantra as self-luminous sound-awareness; when vṛttis arise, do not merge mantra into thought—recenter at dvādaśānta and expand contemplation into all-pervading Śiva.

Khanda Section: Yoga & Tantra (Mantra-sadhana / Shiva-dhyana)

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: adbhuta

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A meditator draws awareness from a luminous point above the head (dvādaśānta) into the heart-space, while a vast, formless Śiva-presence pervades the scene; mantra appears as a steady stream distinct from thought-clouds.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala mural, serene yogin, stylized thought-clouds dissolving, a bright bindu at dvādaśānta, expansive blue-black Śiva aura filling the background without anthropomorphic form, subtle golden mantra-stream","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore, central yogin with gold halo, a large gold field representing vyāpaka Śiva, small radiant bindu above head, mantra depicted as embossed script ribbon, minimal narrative clutter","mysore_prompt":"Mysore style, calm interior, clear depiction of dvādaśānta point and inward drawing line to the chest, mantra ribbon separated from swirling mind patterns, soft pastel palette","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature, contemplative ascetic, delicate wash showing a luminous point above the head, faint calligraphy for mantra, surrounding space rendered as an infinite gradient to suggest all-pervasion"}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: मन्त्रञ्च → मन्त्रम् च; द्वादशान्तात्समानीय → द्वादशान्तात् समानीय.

FAQs

It teaches a mantra-yoga procedure: distinguish mantra-awareness from ordinary mental activity, draw it through the dvādaśānta locus, and fix contemplation on niṣkala (formless) all-pervading Śiva.

Beyond myth and ritual, the Agni Purana preserves practical yogic-tantric inner techniques (mantra internalization, prāṇa-related loci like dvādaśānta, and non-dual Śiva contemplation), showing its wide coverage of sādhanā disciplines.

The practice aims at mantra-siddhi and purification of the mind by leading awareness toward blissful absorption, culminating in contemplation of the undivided Śiva—supporting liberation-oriented (mokṣa) transformation rather than merely external ritual merit.
