Related Themes: Agni Purana 88 (Pitṛ-kriyā, tarpana/ārghya sequence)
It gives a specific procedural step in Pitṛ-rites: placing a drop of arghya-water on the head for āpyāyana (refreshment) and performing kṣamā-prārthanā (seeking forgiveness) before formal visarjana (dismissal) of the Pitṛs.
By preserving granular, manual-like instructions for domestic and śrauta-smārta ritual practice (arghya, forgiveness formula, and dismissal), it functions as a practical ritual compendium alongside the Purana’s many other disciplines.
Seeking forgiveness and properly dismissing the ancestors completes the rite without ritual fault (doṣa), supporting purification, gratitude to lineage, and the intended merit (puṇya) of Pitṛ-tarpaṇa.
