Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Philosophy","secondary_vidya":"Cosmology","practical_application":"Tattva-viveka for meditation and ritual visualization: correlate tanmātra (gandha) and pṛthivī-bhūta with its maṇḍala color/shape to structure bhūta-śuddhi and elemental contemplation.","sutra_style":true}

Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Definition","entry_title":"Pṛthivī-tattva: gandha-guṇa and yellow square maṇḍala","lookup_keywords":["gandha tanmātra","pṛthivī bhūta","pīta maṇḍala","caturasra","guṇa-pañcaka"],"quick_summary":"Smell (gandha) is the defining sense-object/quality linked to the earth element; pṛthivī is visualized as a yellow, firm (vajra-like), square maṇḍala for elemental meditation and ritual mapping."}

Concept: Sāṃkhya-style mapping of guṇa–tanmātra–bhūta: gandha as pṛthivī’s viṣaya/guṇa; form-attributes (color/shape) as aids to cognition and practice.

Application: Apply the mapping in bhūta-śuddhi, prāṇāyāma visualization, or vāstu/yantra design where square-earth symbolism is required.

Khanda Section: Tattva-Guna-Viveka (Sankhya/Philosophical Cosmology: Tanmatras, Bhutas, and their qualities)

Primary Rasa: adbhuta

Secondary Rasa: shanta

FAQs

It classifies smell as the specific sense-object linked with the earth-element and gives the earth-maṇḍala’s technical markers (yellow color, square form, firm/vajra-like nature) used in elemental visualization and diagrammatic (maṇḍala) traditions.

By systematizing sensory theory and elemental correspondences (guṇas, bhūtas, maṇḍala attributes), it shows the text’s coverage beyond mythology—into philosophical cosmology and technical symbolic mappings used across ritual, meditation, and applied sciences.

Contemplating the correct sense-object and elemental form supports disciplined perception and elemental purification (bhūta-śuddhi), helping stabilize the mind and align practice with orthodox cosmological order.
