It teaches a protection step within Śaiva dīkṣā: briefly positioning a ritual vessel (ghaṭa) beneath as a rakṣā-act, then the guru formally receives Śiva’s authorization (ājñā) before conferring the rite/charge upon the yati.
Beyond myth, it preserves procedural ritual details—implements (ghaṭa), timing (kṣaṇamātra), authority transfer (Śiva-ājñā), and role-specific action (guru to yati)—showing the Agni Purana as a manual of applied religious practice alongside its broader teachings.
The act frames initiation as both protected (rakṣā) and authorized (Śiva-ājñā), stressing that spiritual power is transmitted legitimately through divine sanction and the guru’s mediation, which safeguards purity and right performance.
