It outlines core initiation procedure: the guru performs appropriate worship of Śiva and Agni, receives the disciple’s formal obeisance, and then instructs the disciple in the samaya—mandatory vows and disciplinary rules to be observed after initiation.
Beyond mythic narration, it functions like a ritual manual: it codifies priestly protocol (pujā), initiation etiquette (praṇati to the guru), and rule-based discipline (samaya), showing the Agni Purana’s coverage of practical liturgy and religious institutions.
Proper worship and disciplined observance under a guru are presented as safeguards of ritual purity and efficacy; the disciple’s obeisance establishes humility and lineage-connection, while samaya ensures sustained spiritual conduct that preserves merit and prevents ritual lapse.
