Related Themes: Agni Purana 81 (Agneya-vidyā: śānti/pauṣṭika/abhicāra homa distinctions)
It specifies dravya-vikalpa (choice of oblation substances) by ritual goal: sweet, milk-based offerings for śānti and puṣṭi, and harsher/sour/coarse offerings (oil-cake, parched flour, husk/bran, fermented gruel) for abhicāra.
It functions like a practical ritual manual, classifying rites (śāntika, pauṣṭika, abhicāra) and mapping each to specific materials—showing the Purana’s compendium-style coverage of applied liturgy alongside other sciences.
It aligns the ethical/energetic intent of the rite with appropriate offerings: sweet, nourishing substances for welfare and appeasement, and pungent/coarse/sour substances for forceful aims—emphasizing that ritual results depend on correctly matched intention and means.
