Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Philosophy","secondary_vidya":"Tantra","practical_application":"Define dīkṣā as that which generates jñāna in the disciple and grants bhukti and mukti; introduce the taxonomy of kalā-states, naming the second as pralaya-ākala for doctrinal mapping in Śaiva metaphysics.","sutra_style":true}
Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Definition","entry_title":"Dīkṣā-lakṣaṇa (jñāna-jananī) and Pralaya-ākala (second kalā-state)","lookup_keywords":["dīkṣā jñāna","bhukti mukti","kalā","pralaya-ākala","śaiva tattva"],"quick_summary":"Initiation is characterized by the arising of knowledge in the disciple, yielding both enjoyment and liberation; within the kalā-classifications, the second state is termed pralaya-ākala, associated with dissolution."}
Concept: Epistemic criterion of initiation: true dīkṣā produces jñāna; metaphysical taxonomy: pralaya-ākala as a dissolution-associated condition within kalā categories.
Application: Use as a doctrinal test: evaluate sādhana/initiatory practice by whether it yields clarity (jñāna) and ethical transformation; study kalā/ākala terms to navigate Śaiva cosmology and liberation theory.

Related Themes: Agni Purana 81 (kalā-tattva and dīkṣā exposition continues)
It defines dīkṣā as an initiatory process that generates jñāna (transformative knowledge) in the disciple and frames it as a practical means to attain both bhukti (worldly fruition) and mukti (liberation), within a Shaiva-tantric metaphysical schema (kalā/pralaya-ākala).
Alongside ritual prescriptions, the Agni Purana also catalogs technical doctrinal categories—here, initiation theory and a classification of kalā-related principles culminating in the Pralaya-ākala—showing its coverage of both practice (dīkṣā) and metaphysics (tattva taxonomy).
It presents initiation as spiritually efficacious because it awakens knowledge within the disciple, making it a direct cause for liberation while also legitimizing righteous worldly outcomes—thus linking inner transformation with both karmic fruition and final release.
