Lord Agni (narrating ritual procedure to Sage Vasiṣṭha in the Agni Purana’s instructional discourse)

Vidya Category: {"primary_vidya":"Puja-vidhi","secondary_vidya":"Mantra","practical_application":"Ritual closure: internal purification (ācamana), reintegration of invoked presences into Śiva via kumbha-linked saṃhāra, and formal visarjana with kṣamā-yācñā to avoid doṣa from incomplete dismissal.","sutra_style":true}

Encyclopedic Reference: {"reference_type":"Procedure","entry_title":"Visarjana after Kumbha-Saṃyoga in Śiva-arcana","lookup_keywords":["ācamana","kumbha","saṃhāra","visarjana","kṣamā"],"quick_summary":"After ācamana, the invoked/contained presences associated with the kumbha are ritually merged back into Śiva, then dismissed with an act of concluding offering and a request for forgiveness."}

Concept: Saṃhāra (reabsorption) and kṣamā-yācñā as essential components of complete worship, preventing ritual residue (doṣa) and maintaining śuddhi.

Application: Always conclude pūjā by reintegrating invoked energies into the deity and formally dismissing them with humility; do not leave āvāhita powers ‘hanging’.

Khanda Section: Puja-vidhi (Shiva-archana and ritual dismissal/visarjana procedures)

Primary Rasa: shanta

Secondary Rasa: bhakti

Visual Art Cues: {"scene_description":"A Śaiva officiant performs ācamana, steps into the inner sanctum area, touches/gestures toward the consecration pot (kumbha), ritually merges invoked presences into Śiva, then performs a final casting/offer and says ‘kṣamasva’ while dismissing.","kerala_mural_prompt":"Kerala temple mural style, inner sanctum of a Śiva temple, priest with water vessel performing ācamana, sacred kumbha with mango leaves and coconut, subtle aura streams merging into a serene Śiva-linga, final offering gesture, earthy reds and ochres, traditional ornamentation","tanjore_prompt":"Tanjore painting, gold-leaf highlights on kumbha and Śiva-linga, priest in white dhoti performing concluding offering, ‘kṣamasva’ moment, rich jewel tones, ornate arch framing the sanctum","mysore_prompt":"Mysore painting, clean linework showing step-by-step ritual: ācamana, kumbha-samyojana into Śiva, then visarjana; labeled ritual implements (kumbha, pātra), soft pastel palette","mughal_miniature_prompt":"Mughal miniature, detailed interior shrine scene with patterned floor, priest near a decorated kumbha and Śiva emblem, delicate hand gestures of dismissal, fine textiles and architectural detailing"}

Audio Atmosphere: {"recitation_mood":"contemplative","suggested_raga":"Yaman","pace":"medium","voice_tone":"instructional"}

Sandhi Resolution Notes: साक्षेपं = स-आक्षेपम् (अव्ययीभाव). कुम्भानुगतसंवरान् = कुम्भ-अनुगत-संवरान् (तत्पुरुष).

FAQs

It teaches the concluding rite of a Śiva-worship: after ācamana and entering the inner ritual space, the worshipper ritually merges the invoked/contained presences associated with the kumbha into Śiva and then performs a formal dismissal (visarjana) while asking forgiveness (“kṣamasva”).

Beyond theology, it preserves step-by-step liturgical technology—purification (ācamana), kumbha-based invocation/containment, deity-integration (saṃyojana), and dismissal (visarjana)—showing the Agni Purana as a manual of applied ritual practice alongside its many other disciplines.

Requesting forgiveness at dismissal acknowledges possible procedural faults and aims to neutralize ritual lapses, ensuring the worship concludes in purity, humility, and auspiciousness while properly releasing what was invoked.
